The aim of the European Virus Archive project is to create and mobilise a European network of high calibre centres with the appropriate expertise, to collect, amplify, characterise, standardise, authenticate, distribute and track, mammalian and other exotic viruses. The EVA project is establishing a web-based catalogue to advertise and distribute viruses in the collection as well as associated products. In addition the EVA network also produce associated reagents on demand, to laboratories throughout Europe and also worldwide.
Morphology: Virions consist of an envelope and a nucleocapsid. Virus capsid is enveloped. Virions are bullet-shaped. Virions measure 45-100 nm in diameter; 100-430 nm in length. Surface projections are densely dispersed, distinctive spikes
that cover the whole surface except for the quasi-planar end. Capsid/nucleocapsid is elongated with helical symmetry. The nucleocapsid is uncoiled filamentous, or cylindrical (coiled, is cross-banded with a length of uncoiled about 700 nm and a width of uncoiled 20 nm, or 30-70 nm.
Segmented Genome: NO
Nucleic Acid: The Mrof the genome constitutes 1-2% of the virion by weight. The genome is not segmented and contains a single molecule of linear,
negative-sense, single-stranded RNA. The complete genome is 11900 nucleotides long, is fully sequenced. Sequence has the accession number
[D10499]; [D10482]; [J02293]; [K02858]; [K02859]; [K02860]; [K02861]; [K02862]; [K02863]; [K02864]; [K02865]; [K02866]; [K02867]; [K02868]; [K02869]; [M12771]; [M13215]; [M22013]; [M31046]; [M32751]; [M38452]; [M61047]; [M81058]; [M81059]; [M81060]; [X03673]; [X13357]; [X55727]; [X55728]; [X55729].
Nucleotide sequences at the 3'-terminus are are inverted and complementary to similar regions on the 5' end. The 3'-terminus has conserved nucleotide sequences in species of same genus includes about 60 nucleotides in length (leader sequence that precedes N). Each virion contains a full length copy, or shorter copies.
Comment about the current Virus: Tissue Culture Supernantant received 1985. First passage 21/4/88. Isolation host was from Chile. N Gene Genbank AY062068, G Gene Genbank AY062043.
(*)Customers should note that the BSL assigned to each product in the EVA catalogue relates to the national regulation of the supplying institute. Please be aware there will be differing BSL controls from country to country for certain viruses.
EVA's responsibility only extends as far as the international border between supplier and recipient.
It is the responsibility of the recipient laboratory to confirm to EVA that appropriate BSL facilities and trained personnel will be available to ensure the safe receipt of all viral products supplied from the EVA catalogue.
