Video: War against viruses
In order to replicate (reproduce) viruses penetrate susceptible cells and using their genomic template, they divert cellular transcriptional, translational, transportation and assembly processes, to produce new viruses. Vaccines and antiviral drugs are being developed to assist the host defence mechanisms to combat viral infections.
As an immune responses can be produced by vaccines that give immunity to specific viral infections, an antiviral drug is designed to identify viral proteins, or parts of proteins, that can be disabled.
