Pasteur Institute of Algeria is a nonprofit institution of public utility. Founded in 1905, it is under supervision of Algerian Health Ministry endowed with a legal personality and a financial autonomy. It is invested with three main missions:
- Research and national scientific reference in fields of microbiology, parasitology and immunology.
- Production of sera and vaccines for human and veterinary uses
- Production of culture media and reagents.
- Scientific and technical training at national and regional level.
Pasteur Institute of Algeria hosts several national and WHO reference laboratories (influenza, polio, Measles tuberculosis and antibiotic resistance …) and it is a member of Emerging and Dangerous Pathogens Laboratory Network (EDPLN) of WHO AFRO. It is also a member of the International Network of Pasteur Institutes (RIIP) with which it shares its principal mission of surveillance and control of infectious diseases.
