Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) is the only institute specializes in virology, viral pathology and virus technology, among 19 other biological and biomedical research institutes in Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). WIVcontains a virus collection center--China Center for General Viruses Culture Collection (CCGVCC) which was established by the Chinese government in 1979 as a professional center for virus collection. It was registered as a member of World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) in 1989 and admitted as one of the six national culture collection centers of pathogenic microorganism and virus strain with human-to-human transmission in 2013 by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China. The purpose of CCGVCC is to standardize the procedures for virus isolation, collection, preservation, and management, to promote the development and utilization of the virus resource, and to be an important supporting platform for virology research.WIV also contains a 454 sequencing platform. The related research include: isolation of virus from fields, maintenance of virus collection, next generation sequencing, bioinformatics and database construction and maintaining.
WIV has a 454 sequencing platform and a bioinformatics group which has experience in genome database.
